Okay, first of all, this is not really a book -- at least not in the "I'm gonna sit down and read a book" sense of the word. Rather, it is a collection of some of the all-time great lines from the I Love Lucy series... Lines like:

  • "Ever since we said 'I do,' there are so many things we don't!"
  • "If I'd known this is what friends are for, I'd have signed up as an enemy."
    and, of course
  • "How can you stand there in the middle of all this mess and utter those four horrible words, 'I've got an idea!"?
The 128-page, hardbound volume also contains a rich assortment of stills from the Lucy series, some familiar but many never used before in print. (Our one complaint about the photos is that the editors did not attempt to match the scenes with the lines of dialog).

In a short introduction, Lucy historian Tom Watson gives credit where credit is due: to the writers who dreamed up the wonderful lines to begin with: Jess Oppenheimer, Bob Carroll Jr., Madelyn Pugh Davis, Bob Weiskopf and Bob Schiller.

"The Quotable 'I Love Lucy'" is on sale at Barnes & Noble Bookstores and Compact in size, it's a perfect Christmastime stocking stuffer. Afterall --

"It's not the gift that counts. It's the lack of thought behind it."
